Spring Clean Your Energy

Got a case of the blahs or blues? You may not be feeling yourself lately and it’s not your fault! Just as seasons cycle and shift throughout the year our energy within will too! Every season is important and serves its purpose in understanding the purpose of their counterparts. Contrast is key. We cannot fully understand something unless we learn its opposite. Think about the seasons we experience and start comparing them to your feelings throughout the year. This is not a coincidence. The more connected we remain during these transitions, the more we can experience peace in the presence of each season.

Winter is the hibernation and rest period in the cycle where energies chill or freeze and some may go dormant until spring. Sometimes the seasonal shifts can be overwhelming and daunting as things begin to change. As our inner energy begins to awaken and “thaw out” from the freeze of winter, we may feel uneasy because we have forgotten about issues or old energies that we “put on ice” while we rested during winter. This is perfectly normal as we begin the journey towards a season of change, and give life to new energies.

Spring brings new life and the birthing of transformative growth periods for our earth. It is also the perfect time for us to turn inward and reflect and take inventory of what’s necessary going forward and what we can clear out. Imagine spring cleaning your home and putting all of the old things that no longer serve a purpose in your life and packing them into garbage bags or containers and driving to goodwill to drop them off as a donation. This is a simple meditation practice you can employ by labeling each bag as something you would like to drop off from your experience. Once it has been donated it has a new cause and new purpose. I like to think of it as being “transmuted” into something more useful. Make a list of any mental “baggage” you are carrying around with you right now. The first step of getting rid of them is to acknowledge them. Acknowledge that they are part of your experience and then surrender to them as if they were a divine teacher of a lesson. The only way out of inner problems is through them. After we have surrendered and learned from our teachers, we can move forward and embrace the warmth and new energy of the season that has finally arrived in our favor. We have taken the time, done the work, and we are now a more refined version of ourselves. Nice work! 🙂

As we enjoy the pulse of new life that spring carries, it brings us full throttle into the warm exciting energies of summer. Everything is expanding. Possibilities seem endless, and we act on new opportunities and endeavors that spring has gifted us. Continue to maintain your inner garden by tending to your thoughts and energies. Continue to weed out negativity, and lessons that you have completed. Take advantage of the energy and spirit that this wonderful season brings and use it to your full advantage to set your future up for success.

Crisp autumn energy begins to create a new season for us. Things cool down, and allow us to turn inward and reflect on what we have created during spring and summer. We have done the work, enjoyed experiences, and basked in the warmth of our productive seasons provided for us. As we look back at what we have learned, we begin to look forward to the winter season, and prepare for rest. We use the warmth of what we have created in the past two seasons to keep us grounded and thriving as we enter slowly into the cold, yet comforting winter season.

Just as the seasons come full circle, as do we. Through ups and downs, highs and lows. Let us remember that nothing lasts forever- good or bad, and it’s all part of a cycle that serves its self for the greater good in the end.

No, not personal floatation devices! Although those are important too 🙂 Phone free dates! For some of us it’s hard to imagine, but yes I’m suggesting it! Schedule a date with your love that is completely phone free. Put your phones away in a different room, or leave them at home if you go out.

Cell phones are wonderful for communication and connection. However, many of us have grown so accustomed to using them that it’s second nature to just be mindlessly scrolling through social media or web browsing.

When we remove the “screen” from our reality we can re-connect at the meaningful level we are supposed to as humans. Gaze into each other’s eyes, have conversation and enjoy each other’s presence.

All we truly have in this life is the current moment. Phones and electronics can place us in an autopilot mode, or state of constant distraction. Connecting in the now with your partner is key to creating a lasting future with them. Show each other how much you matter to one another by dedicating your undivided attention at least one date night per week.

It will be an excellent reminder of why you are together in the first place. One of the best ways to create happiness for yourself is create happiness for another person. We all crave attention, and want to feel loved and important. Give your partner the love and attention they deserve by going phone free for just one night together!

My husband and I adopted this ritual when we first started dating in 2011. We were on a date and every single table surrounding us was occupied with couples sitting together, not saying a word, on their phones. We both looked at each other and made a promise that we would never end up like that.

Cell phones are great tools for communication, but can become problematic if overused. As with most things, moderation is key. Use them when you need to, but don’t fub your best friend! No text, meme, or article is worth ruining a relationship!

Supplements That Cured My Acne

Hello loves!  I thought I would share my top three supplements that have helped to cure my adult acne once and for all.  I actually didn’t start getting severe acne until my third year of college.  It was weird, I thought since I didn’t have any in high school that I was off the hook!  Joke was on me! I developed severe and painful cystic acne around my chin and jawline, and lots of small whiteheads on my forehead.

Alarmed and confused I consulted a dermatologist and began several ineffective courses of creams, and hormone disrupting medications.  Over the course of a year I saw some improvement, but definitely could not use my skin and “clear” in the same sentence. 

I began exploring more natural options such as diet and supplementation.  I knew that diet had an effect on skin and was already a relatively healthy eater.  As I began researching more deeply I concluded that my hormones were unbalanced, and I was still leaving out important foods that promoted healing of my skin.

The main things I integrated into my diet that helped tremendously were:

Good Fats (Avacado, Walnuts, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Salmon, Butter)

Distilled Water


There was a noticeable difference in my skins appearance and texture after around 30 days.

I still wanted to achieve that flawless glow, so I continued to study supplements and their potential benefits on skin.

To this day, I swear by these:

Alpha Lipoic Acid’s anti-inflammatory effects help reduce visible redness and discolored areas, resulting in a more even skin tone. ALA can help shrink the appearance of pores and impart a healthy, radiant-looking glow to the skin by locking in your body’s natural moisture content.

Zinc Picolinate is a natural detoxifying agent, helping rid the skin of impurities that cause acne and oily skin.  It also helps boots the immune system which can fight infections or prevent them from happening in the first place.

Dim-Plus is a substance that naturally occurs in coniferous vegetables. In supplement form it is extracted and acts as a mega dose of the good stuff from broccoli, without all of the gas and bloating. (Just sayin’) It’s mechanism of action works by detoxing your body of excess estrogen. Estrogen dominance can occur in anyone because of the high levels of estrogen we come into contact with through everyday pollutants. Symptoms of estrogen dominance include: heavy periods, weight gain, magnified PMS, cystic breasts, irregular periods, acne around jawline.

Fermented Cod Liver Oil + Butter Oil: Each of these by themselves are great, but when used in combination they are a miracle worker.  They naturally hydrate the skin and joints of our body.  These healthy fats also send a signal our oil secreting glands that we have enough, allowing our body to even out production. (Excess oil production is what causes clogged pores and acne) Having hydrated, happy skin equals no acne as well as great wrinkle prevention!

Seasons of the year mirror the season of our life.  Each one is perfect, beautiful, unique and has a purpose. No matter which season you  may be experiencing on your journey, it is important to remember that even if it seems like darkness, it is preparing you for the next one.  Nothing is forever, this too shall pass. 
As ‘Abdu’l-Baha says, to be “thankful in adversity” and see the good in resting. Winter is a time to reflect and meditate on your life. Rest easy and recover, so that we may come to life again in the spring.

Embrace the season you are in, because it is a beautiful part of your journey. Balance your contentment in the “now,” with your excitement for what lies ahead.
